
Ludwig Binswanger
April 13, 1881: Born in Kreuzlingen, Switzerland to Robert Johann Binswanger and Bertha Hasenclever.
1907: Receives his medical degree from the University of Zürich and visits Sigmund Freud with Carl Jung.
1911: Becomes the medical director of the Bellevue Hospital, which was founded by his grandfather Ludwig “Elieser” Binswanger, in his hometown of Kreuzlingen. He held this role until 1956.
1912: Receives diagnosis for a malignant tumor.
1942: Publishes the book Basic Forms and Knowledge of Human Existence. In the book he combines psychotherapy with existentialism, and introduced the term “Daseinsanalyse” which means existential analysis.
February 5, 1966: Dies in his hometown of Kreuzlingen, Switzerland at the age of 75.
